The history: Louis Vuitton was born in 1821 and started out as an apprentice to a Parisian trunk-maker, where he began by making travel trunks. Thanks to his expertise, success wasn't long in coming and he decided to found his own company in 1854 and open a boutique in Paris.
In 1870, the brand developed its activity abroad and the famous LV monogram began to be placed on its creations. From then on, the house's legend was well and truly underway…
Louis Vuitton works with various artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami and Stephen Sprouse. The fashion house counts Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman, Scarlett Johansson and Madonna amongst its muses. It also called upon David Bowie and model Arizona Muse for a film campaign with the evocative title 'Invitation au Voyage'. Today Nicolas Ghesquière has taken over from Marc Jacobs as art director and the label continues to create iconic pieces.
For its 160th anniversary, Louis Vuitton has invited 6 designers to rethink its bags and the mythical monogram. Frank Gehry, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, Rei Kawakubo, Cindy Sherman and Marc Newson share their vision of the famous fashion house.
The key pieces: The 'Speedy Bag', the Damier canvas, the 'Monogram LV' bag, the 'Lockit bag', the 'Alma' bag and leather trunks.
