In 1991, Christian Louboutin opened his first shoe shop in Paris, which his clients called 'Le boudoir'. It wasn't long before his trademark red soles made a name for themselves. The legend goes that the designer borrowed some nail polish off his assistant to paint the soles of his pumps a fiery red.
In 2002, his partnership with Yves Saint Laurent during Fashion Week sealed his reputation. Afterwards the brand literally took off opening shops the whole world over. In 2006, the designer opened a workshop he called 'Minuit moins 7' (7 minutes to Midnight) in which his clients such as Victoria Beckham and Kylie Minogue could have shoes made to measure.
The label is on sale in 46 countries. Louboutin's notorious heels can be seen on the feet of the edgiest celebs from Dita Von Teese to Blake Lively, not forgetting Katy Perry.
Only recently the designer launched the 'Scarabée collection' in a range of colours inspired by Egypt, a country that he is particularly fond of.
